Dr. Tolga Tem, D.M.A. Piano, Composition

Dr. Tem is a music composer and educator with a doctorate in music composition. He's skilled in composing for orchestras, multimedia, computer games, and films. His teaching areas include piano, music composition, film scoring, music theory, and ear training. He's also proficient in e-learning, music technology, computer music, sound design, game audio, and game technologies. Since 2015, he has been a music professor at Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN, and became an assistant professor of music in 2023.

Dr. Tem has served as the Director of the Music & Sound Production Department at SEBIT LLC, an education and IT company at Skysong, Arizona State University in Scottsdale, AZ, between 1996 and 2015. The company specializes in e-learning, multimedia, game development, and educational research. His teaching methods, informed by his research and use of educational technology, engage a wide range of students from young learners to adults.

Additionally, Dr. Tem owns and manages the Dr. Tem Music & Arts Academy, where he teaches private and group piano classes to children and adults, mentors professional musicians and songwriters, and oversees all students' musical development. He frequently organizes workshops and recitals to foster student engagement and offers specialized classes for music teachers and aspiring educators. Dr. Kowoon Lee, D.M.A. Advanced Piano (Online)

Dr. Lee made her debut as a concerto soloist at age 16 with the Chungnam Symphony Orchestra. She has since performed internationally in the United States, South Korea, Puerto Rico, Italy, and the Czech Republic, with many orchestras and ensembles, including the Seoul National University Orchestra, the Romanian Banatul Timișoara Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sookmyung Festival Orchestra, the Janacek Concert Chamber Orchestra, the UMKC Conservatory Orchestra, and the Kansas City Ballet.​

Dr. Lee specializes in music by women composers and actively presents at numerous international conferences, such as the College Music Society, International Alliance for Women in Music, and World Piano Conference, to name a few. Her lecture-recitals include “21st Century Music for Solo Piano by Living East Asian Women Composers,” “Finding Their Own Voices: Piano Etudes by Women Composers in the 21st Century,” “Visual and Aural Connections: Character Pieces for Trumpet and Piano by Living Women Composers,” “Homeland: Celebrating Women’s Voices and Heritages Throughout 21st Century Music for Flute and Piano,” and “Arari: The Most Korean-esque Folk Song.”

Dr. Lee has been working with many renowned living composers, including Chen Yi, James Mobberley, Gabriela Ortiz, and others. She has been featured on several radio stations, such as Kansas Public Radio, 91.9 Classical KC, and the KKFI Classical Challenge, and was interviewed as an international woman pianist on the Every Woman radio show. As an adjudicator, she has been invited to the Indonesia International Young Musician Awards, Marie Guengerich Festival, Hong Kong International Music Talent Online Competition, and various MTNA competitions.

Dr. Lee graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Indiana University, Sookmyung Women’s University, and the Chungnam Arts High School. Previously taught at Washburn University, Cottey College, and Interlochen Arts Camp, she teaches at Tennessee State University and is a co-founder and member of KC Piano Duo.

Andre Madatian, M.M. Guitar, Piano

Andre Madatian is a guitarist, composer, and Professor of Music at Tennessee State University and Middle Tennessee State University. Andre holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Film Scoring from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, and a Master of Music degree in Composition from Middle Tennessee State University. As a guitarist, Andre has studied with Tomo Fujita, whose former students include John Mayer and Eric Krasno of Soulive and Lettuce. Other teachers include Sal Difusco of the Sal Difusco Project, John Baboian of the Bebop Guitars, and David Fiuczynski of the Screaming Headless Torsos and guitarist for jazz pianist Hiromi Uehara. Andre is also an active guitarist in Nashville where he continues to tour often. He has toured with numerous Nashville-based artists and to date has performed thousands of concerts in countries all over the globe. Notable performances include headlining the Albisgüetli Country Music Festival in Zurich, Switzerland, performing at the 25th Annual Trucker's Festival in Interlaken, Switzerland along with The Bellamy Brothers, Kris Kristofferson, and Carlene Carter, performing at the Country Music Cruise in Ancona, Italy, and performing at the Havelock Country Music Jamboree in Ontario, Canada opening for Toby Keith. Andre has recently toured as the lead guitarist for country stars such as Keith Anderson, Jared Blake, and John Schneider; the American actor, singer, and filmmaker widely known for his role as “Bo Duke” in the original “Dukes Of Hazzard” television show. Notable performances include the Franklin Theater, Dosey Doe in Spring, Texas, the Cailloux Theater, and “Bo’s Extravaganza” featuring Kid Rock at John Schneider Studios in Holden, Louisiana performing with John Schneider, Keith Burns of “Trick Pony” and Grammy award-winning Cajon accordionist, Jo-El Sonnier. Andre has also toured with 3-time Grammy-nominated Americana/Bluegrass singer and former member of Daily & Vincent, Christian Davis. Notable performances include the Manship Theater in Baton Rouge and the Strand Theatre in Jennings, Louisiana as support with John Schneider.

Andre is currently on tour with Kentucky native and country music star, JD Shelburne. In 2021 alone, he has opened for ZZ Top, entered the iTunes Country Top Ten, and has released his best album to date, Straight From Kentucky, a project People magazine called “an all-encompassing look into the heart and soul of the kid that grew up on a tobacco farm loving country music.”An active member since 2019, notable performances include the Hometown Rising festival opening for Tim McGraw, Freedom Hall Arena in Louisville, Kentucky, WSM 650 “Home of The Grand Ole Opry”, and the “Cotton Eyed Joe” in Knoxville, Tennessee opening for Sammy Kershaw.

Andre is an endorsed artist with PRS guitars, Ernie Ball, Kepma Acoustics, Creation Music Company, DiMarzio, 64 Audio, DiamondLife Gear, Free The Tone, Voodoo Lab, Shubb Capos, Runway Audio, Belt & Brace Guitar Straps, Rock Solid Guitar Stands, and ChickenPicks. He also received the Outstanding Graduate Student in Music Award in Spring 2022 at Middle Tennessee State University, Berklee Achievement Scholarship in 2013, and is a two-time recipient of the Richard and Rose Dermenjian Scholarship in 2011 and 2012 for his musical and compositional achievements.

Meagan Prewitt, M.M. Obua, Piano

Meagan Prewitt is a classically trained oboist and pianist based in Nashville, Tennessee. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Oboe Performance from Vanderbilt University, where she studied with Jared Hauser, and a Master of Music in Oboe Performance from the Eastman School of Music under Richard Killmer.

During her training, Meagan performed at renowned festivals including the National Music Festival, Mostly Modern Festival, and the College Light Opera Company. She has also participated in masterclasses with distinguished artists such as Eugene Izotov, Andreas Wittmann, and Ferguson McWilliams, gaining invaluable insight into performance and technique.

After completing her studies, Meagan served with the United States Army Europe and Africa Band and Chorus in Sembach, Germany. As a member of the Concert Band and Barbarossa Wind Quintet, she toured extensively across Europe and Africa, supporting military missions through music.

Today, Meagan works as a music librarian at Vanderbilt University’s Wilson Music Library and maintains an active freelance career, performing with operas, musicals, orchestras, and choirs. She has taught private oboe and piano lessons since high school and runs a reed-making business to support her students' growth. Meagan is passionate about helping young musicians discover their artistic voice and takes joy in nurturing a lifelong love of music. At Dr. Tem Music & Arts Academy, Meagan travels to students' homes to provide in-person piano and oboe lessons.

Whitney Roberts, M.M. Clarinet & Flute (Online)

Whitney Roberts is a dedicated clarinet teacher based in the Nashville area. She obtained her Bachelor of Music Degree and Master of Music Education and Clarinet from Vanderbilt University, where she had the privilege of studying under the guidance of world-renowned clarinetist Mariam Adam. Throughout her musical journey, Whitney has had the opportunity to learn from esteemed clarinetists such as Dr. Todd Waldecker, Bixby Kennedy, Benjamin Sorrell, Kristen Sheridan, David Shae, and Kliment Krylovskiy. With a passion for music and performance, Whitney has performed in various venues across the United States and in Europe, participating in prestigious music festivals such as the Zodiac Music Academy, the Wintergreen LEAD Cooperative, and the Rocky Ridge Music Festival. Her commitment to excellence was recognized at Vanderbilt University when she was selected as the 2024 Presser Scholar. During her time at Vanderbilt, Whitney was an active member of the university's Orchestra and Wind Symphony, where she collaborated with fellow musicians to create captivating performances. Notably, she contributed to the recording of the Vanderbilt Wind Symphony's album titled Music City.

Whitney's expertise and passion for music education make her a valuable asset to the Nashville music community. For four years, she taught a large variety of courses to various age groups at the WO Smith Music School. In addition to clarinet, Whitney loves to teach beginner piano and flute. Whether she is teaching aspiring musicians or performing on stage, Whitney's talent and dedication shine through in all aspects of her musical endeavors. She is particularly skilled at working with children, creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment at Dr. Tem Music Academy.

Cheng Ding, B.M. Clarinet, Beginner Piano

Cheng Ding is a Vanderbilt University graduate with a Bachelor of Musical Arts degree, concentrating in clarinet performance, and a double major in Computer Science. Cheng has cultivated a rich and rewarding musical journey, excelling in ensemble playing, chamber performances, and solo work.

Cheng's achievements include serving as Co-Principal Clarinetist of the Knoxville Youth Symphony Orchestra during the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons. He was a finalist in the Tennessee Governor’s School of Music Concerto Competition, performing Rossini's Introduction, Theme, and Variations. Additionally, Cheng earned distinctions in All-State (7th chair in 2018, 1st chair Wind Ensemble and TnMEA Honor’s Recital in 2019) and represented Tennessee in the 2019 NAfME All-National Honor Ensemble.

During his time at Vanderbilt, Cheng frequently held principal positions with the Vanderbilt Wind Symphony and Vanderbilt Orchestra. He also contributed to the Music City recording project with the wind symphony. As a member of the Kleine Woodwind Quintet, Cheng performed in numerous Blair Chamber Showcase Recitals and presented two full recitals, exploring a wide range of woodwind quintet repertoire.

Cheng has studied under Mariam Adam (founding member of Imani Winds and Professor at Vanderbilt) and participated in masterclasses with notable musicians, including Patrick Morgan (Principal Clarinetist of "The President’s Own" Marine Band), Scott McAllister (renowned composer for clarinet), Guy Yehuda (Michigan State University, Lansing Symphony Orchestra), and François Sauzeau (Principal Clarinetist at Orchester National de Lyon).

Currently, Cheng teaches clarinet at Dr.Tem Music Academy while pursuing a Master’s degree at Vanderbilt University. He is dedicated to inspiring his students to achieve their musical goals while fostering a love for the clarinet and its rich repertoire.

Jenni is a talented and experienced classical musician, excelling in piano and bassoon performance. She has a passion for passing on her love of classical music to the next generation of students, using innovative technology to make learning easier and more engaging.
